Survey explores women's heathcare attitudes and practices
|
A recent survey examining women's attitudes toward and practices related to their health has uncovered some interesting results. The good? More women are seeing their healthcare providers on a regular basis. The not-so-good? Less than half of the women who were surveyed said they were "comfortable" discussing their genitals and using the word "vagina" with their healthcare provider, and many reported that they're not always honest with their doctor about things like diet, exercise, and smoking.
What we emphasize at A Woman's Touch is the idea that knowledge is power. If you can identify with the women who are uncomfortable talking about their genitals with their doctor, and uncomfortable using correct anatomical terms, try reading a comprehnsive book on sexuality, like The Good Vibrations Guide to Sex or A New View of a Woman's Body. Knowing more about our bodies can help us become more comfortable with them, and can also make it easier for us to talk about our health and sexuality with our healthcare practitioners. The more we know about our bodies, the easier it is to take care of them.
