This movie consists of 2 parts: Tristan Taormino's "anal workshop," in which she discusses the basics of anal pleasure to a small group of people, followed by a couple of sex scenes where techniques for anal sex are demonstrated. In the workshop, Tristan provides a detailed discussion of anal sex in a way that is clear, easy to understand, and practical enough that viewers could use the information with confidence. She begins by discussing anatomy, pointing out the anus, rectum, and G-Spot on a diagram. She answers the question, "why anal sex?" emphasizing that it's physically pleasurable because anal play directly stimulates an area rich in nerve ending and indirectly stimulates the G-Spot. She also explains that there are strong emotional and psychological reasons, such as feeling that it is a special act, or enjoying the naughtiness/taboo factor. She explains that anal sex never has to hurt, and goes over very concrete reasons that someone might feel pain (i.e. not enough lube, not enough warm-up, just plain not ready) and what to do about it. Then, Ariel and Lorelei, both adult actors, demonstrate some anal play techniques while Tristan explains what they're doing and why. They demonstrate a variety of ways to warm up the area (rimming, touching, slow penetration with a finger, simultaneous clitoral stimulation), using lube, and using different kinds of toys. Tristan shows us a variety of toys (anal beads, anal plugs, and dildos), and discusses the different sensations they create. She also discusses different kinds of lube.
Following the workshop are 2 sex scenes starring adult actors that can be viewed either with or without narration/instruction. Beforehand, each person involved talks a bit about their own experiences with anal sex, and advice they have. It is quite clear that the women involved enjoy anal sex and know what they like. I think it's beneficial for viewers to see women's honest enthusiasm for anal play and to hear ways people can talk about what they like to do sexually. During each scene, the couples spend a lot of time warming up--they apply lube, do a lot of touching, and play with a variety of toys before engaging in penetration. Then, they demonstrate several positions for penetration. I watched the instructional version, so intermittently there's a bubble (kind of like Pop-Up Video on MTV) that pops up with some helpful information. Tristan also narrates, explaining why they are doing certain things and how viewers can make it work for themselves. In addition to using anal toys, the women use vibrators externally to heighten their pleasure. Each couple also makes use of some Liberator furniture (pointed out by the bubbles), which was interesting to see. The women definitely enjoy themselves and have orgasms. The sex scenes are quite tasteful while still being completely explicit.
There's an extra scene showing Lorelei and Ariel playing together, which is a continuation of their demonstration during the workshop. There is also a discussion of enemas, in which Tristan first goes over basic cleaning to prepare for anal sex and then explains (while the actors demonstrate) how to use an enema if you choose.
I think that this movie is an excellent way for couples to learn how to incorporate anal play into their sex lives. It is both arousing and educational, and combines an overall sense of why anal play is fun with very specific details about how to do it. It covers more information than Nina Hartley's movie on the same topic, and does a better job of integrating education and demonstration.
