Description:
Provocative is the key word for this collection of short stories. Not for the faint of heart or loin, each story manages to offer up something fresh--something raw and gritty and glistening--about sex and how we have it and perceive it. As the editors say in their introduction about sex-writing, "every acre of the subject is overdeveloped, covered in condos and strip malls of cliché." So these stories reach to be different, to be novel and not tired and predictable. All of them succeed. The writing is nuanced and nimble. There are convincing plots, flesh-and-blood characters and vivid settings. The photographs accompanying the text are cheeky, brazen and beautiful.
There are heterosexual couples, lesbians, men exploring homosexuality, threesomes and more, masturbation, one night stands, sweet romances, apocalyptic sex, sex with Jesus, sex between a man and his perfectly pregnant wife. And all of it, even the most outrageous fantasy, feels true to life.
These stories grab hold of your brain and your groin and ska-weeze. In most cases, both brain and bits are stimulated and satisfied, in others one of them may feel left out. That's what the next story is for.
This collection is good for people who either have an extensive erotica collection and are looking for something new to give them a jolt, or for the hipsters who thought they'd never read erotica because they imagine it to be the domain of stern dowagers scribbling about turgid manhoods and blossoming flowers of desire. Highly recommended.
