Description:
DVD onlyWe get many requests for more information about Tantric sexual practices, and this video goes the furthest in both describing and showing exercises and Tantric practice between heterosexual couples. The couples appear involved with each other, having fun and pleasure, and also describe some of their personal experiences with Tantra. The announcer seems a little on the extra cheerful side, but if you can get past that, it's highly recommended. 60 min. Produced in 1997. Hosted by Mark Schoen, Ph.D.
Here is what one of our staff reviewers had to say about this:
The Tantric Guide to Better Sex is a simple to use guide for individuals who want to learn about the ever mysterious practice of Tantra. This film is the first guide I have ever encountered on the subject that gives a precise answer to the question "What is tantra?" According to the film, "Tantra... is a path to enlightenment, which prolongs the special awareness and rapport between lovers during lovemaking." The movie then goes through a series of exercises that help the viewer on the path to enlightenment.
This movie breaks down important principles into easy-to-navigate chapters. Each lesson follows a basic set-up. They present the subject to be learned by giving a brief explanation on what the subject is and its significance. Then you see a real couple demonstrating what has been presented. Next, an expert on the subject, like Margot Anand or Charles and Caroline Muir, gives a further explanation and relate it to how they used it in real life and its impact for them. This DVD covers many tantra basics, like chakras, full body orgasms, multiple orgasms for men and women, breathing exercises, massage, movement, setting the scene, and different positions.
The Tantric Guide to Better Sex falls somewhere in between The Beginner's Guide to Tantric Sexuality and
The Modern Tantra Workshop. The Modern Tantra Workshop is the most casual of all the guides because it presents very basic tantric principles, but tries to relate to the viewer with a modern sensibility through the use more mainstream couples, settings that look like people's homes, and toys like body paint . It's more like vanilla tantra, but with sprinkles on the side to give it the extra oomph. The Tantric Guide has generic settings for the featured couples, as well as the experts. The Beginner's Guide has a highly stylized set. Amateurs should not be intimidated by either The Tantric Guide or The Beginner's Guide. They both offer about the same amount of information, but presented in different ways. The Beginner's Guide is better for bashful people as there are no genital close-ups and no intercourse taking place. The Modern Tantra Workshop has couples having intercourse and oral sex without genital the close-ups . The Tantric Guide has some genital close-ups, but no external ejaculation shots and features a wide range of play, like coitus, masturbation, and oral sex. Unlike The Modern Tantra Workshop, there are no full-length sex scenes featured in this DVD. The instructors in The Tantric Guide and The Beginner's Guide may appeal more to people serious about learning tantra as a way of life and not just a quirky new thing to try. The experts in those films have dedicated their lives to the practice as opposed to an instructor who is a sexpert who has basic information on a wide variety of topics. The instructor in The Modern Tantra workshop probably won't have as much "street cred" amongst serious practioners.
The production values in The Tantric Guide are excellent. The sound and light quality is good. The script is well written and easy to follow. The sets are appropriate for each scene. The couples featured look like they are from an unspecified time period, but he experts look dated. Overall, an excellent guide for anyone interested in tantra.
This DVD does not have region-specific coding, and is playable all over the world.
