Description:
This beautiful, warm-hearted book is a joy to read. Kris Carr, a 30-something actress, photographer, and cancer survivor, has written this book with the help of her "Cancer Babe Posse" to provide information, inspiration, and empowerment to women with cancer. Karr's voice is personable and humorous as she describes her own cancer story and things she's learned along the way. In her attempts to give cancer a makeover, she covers all sorts of topics: practical things like how to choose a good doctor, connect with other cancer survivors, and make healthy dietary changes, to less tangible things like how to take back your life and thrive as a survivor, and how to tap into your spirituality and creativity. Also covers fertility issues, sexuality, dating, exercise, social issues, and much more. It's aimed at a younger crowd who don't have as many resources for dealing with cancer as their older counterparts. An entertaining and heartening read--there's bound to be something here for everyone, something to help you feel a little less like a patient and a little more like a human, a woman, and a "Cancer Cowgirl!"
If you want a book that deals entirely with cancer and sexuality, then Intimacy After Cancer or Sexuality and Fertility After Cancer would be better choices (see sidebar).
Written by Kris Carr with an introduction by Sheryl Crow. 200 pages. 2007.
