Our reviewer says:
In this six-week program, better physical health equals a harder penis. Dr. Lamm essentially doles out common-sense advice that people of all ages and every gender should live by.
"The first section of the book provides an introduction to points that are presented later in the book, and the author spends most of the time telling you what he is going to tell you later, and that the program would work for you.
"The second part of the book actually got into the program. Each chapter describes the requirements for the new week. It starts out with a blurb on what to expect at ages 15, 25, and 35 to 65. There is a 'penis protractor' that shows what angle your erect penis should progress to each week. It acknowledges how hard the changes in lifestyle are, but encourages you to keep going. Then, it addresses specific health issues in detail by relating them to stories of the author's own patients. There are menus and recommendations for new supplements and vitamins in each chapter. He also introduces new exercises that should specifically help the groin area. At the end of each chapter there is a small quiz to measure your progress.
"In a nutshell, the program is to walk at least 10,000 steps everyday, add weight training and special stretches, eat a variety of foods and keep portion-size small, don't smoke, don't drink excessively, take a slew of vitamins and herbal supplements, and engage in foreplay. If that doesn't work, the author suggests going to the doctor immediately because you may have an underlying health problem. That especially applies to people who take Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra.
"An important device Dr. Lamm uses to persuade his patients to live a healthy lifestyle is by relating poor health habits to poor erectile functioning. He knows a 20-year-old is not going to be persuaded to stop smoking, drinking, or spending his days wallowing away on the couch with a bag of Doritos in his hand because he'll feel like crap by the time he turns 60. Telling any man that he won't have a proper hard-on the next time he is ready to have sex can stop those behaviors, since many people's concept of 'being a man' is so tied to a functioning penis. He backs this with medical facts in a way most people can understand, and doesn't get technical. He talks like an uncle -- reassuring, but also telling you what you need to hear.
"Overall, this is a good, interactive resource for men of all ages, regardless of erectile function. I would recommend this book to people with problems getting or maintaining an erection, people who are not as hard as they want to be when they want to be, and the people who love them.
I like that The Hardness Factor provides a lot of common sense and easy-to-follow health information; provides questionnaires at the end of each chapter to measure your progress in the program; provides lots of interesting random facts and jokes on the sidebars; inclues thorough appendices with recipes, shopping lists, shopping guides, and a chart to track progress; encourages changes in lifestyle before trying medication; and speaks in laymen's terms so readers don't get all jumpy. He acknowledges that men tend to be in denial about their health, so he tries to make it sound like you are not talking to a doctor or reading medical text.
"I didn't really like how this book didn't get to the point quick enough. You can skip the first section, which is 61 pages, and not miss any of the important points of the book."
