This is a modern retelling of the "Story of O", starring Carmen Luvana as O and Tommy Gunn as her master. There are also many other well-known porn stars in it, including Nina Hartley, who narrates and appears as a Domme in a couple of scenes. It's plot-driven, but there are also LOTS of long and varied sex scenes. Even the parts between the sex scenes weren't boring, unlike some plot-driven adult films. The fact that the plot has to do with sex makes it different than many other of these plot-driven movies, which are more situational.
The movie revolves around the theme of dominance and submission. They do an interesting job of this. For example, O gets asked several times by those who are dominating her if she consents to what is going to happen. There is also great affection between O and her master, and O says that she submits to him because she loves him. This emphasis on consent and affection shows D/s relationships at their best and provides a truer look at this form of play, instead of the idea that it is scary, abusive, etc. It also assures viewers that everyone involved is enjoying the activities, so they can sit back and enjoy watching without worrying whether that poor girl is being hurt.
There is some bondage, some flogging, and some caning. The sensation play shown is not meant to be extreme or to shock; it is meant to arouse. So it is mixed in with a lot of "vanilla" sex--the kind of activities we're used to seeing in porn. I saw this movie referred to somewhere as "bondage lite," and since it is mainstream, it almost has to be. However, Ernest Greene obviously has a lot of knowledge about BDSM, and it is portrayed accurately. So I think it's mainstream enough not to alienate the "average" viewer, and done with enough expertise that the BDSM-playing viewer will appreciate it as well. A tricky balance to achieve, but this movie does it.
In terms of sex acts portrayed, this movie has a little bit of everything. There are twosomes, threesomes, and group scenes, there is both oral sex and anal sex, sex in all sorts of positions, there is flogger/cane usage as well as vibrator usage, there's some leather and latex wear...it's done with many of the usual tropes of mainstream porn, but it is all done very well. There are definitely at least a few real orgasms, and very real arousal all around. There is also one of the hottest girl/girl scenes I've ever seen; part of the reason it's so great is because both women are obviously quite turned on.
This would be a great choice for a viewer who wants both a plot and lots of sex scenes, and who is interested in, curious about, and/or open to seeing sensation/power play. It's good for someone who wants to see a little bit of everything in a well-done, high-budget movie. It is not a good choice for someone who likes short vignettes, who doesn't like mainstream adult films, or who is turned off by sensation/power play.
