Also, women who have trouble with the acid balance (pH) of their partner's semen like to use the female condom to prevent itching and burning sensation from the semen. The design also allows someone to use this condom anally once the internal ring is removed, as long as you keep hold of the outer ring.
The Female Condom takes a little practice to get used to, because as with any new technology, you need to get the knack of wearing these. The inner ring slips in your vagina and hugs your cervix (like a diaphragm would), and the outer ring stays on the outside where it can erotically rub your clitoris, anatomy permitting. To remove, twist the outer ring (to keep secretions/semen inside), and gently tug out. No mess, no fuss, and you get to decide when you want to wear one. Instructions and lube provided.
Any disadvantages? Yep--the cost is higher because there is more material per condom. Also, they do make a quiet little "crinkly" noise in use, so be prepared to turn up the music, and allow those moaning sounds to flow forth.
